Why We Like The 5010 Carbon CC X01 Eagle Mountain Bike
The Santa Cruz 5010 Carbon CC X01 Eagle Mountain Bike is a bike that doesn’t know what it is, and we love it that way. It’s responsive enough to feel like a cross-country bike on undulating terrain and aggressive enough to be our dedicated downhill or park-only machine. This version of the 5010 is specced with top-end durable components and a geometry platform that has us pushing hard on the descents and climbing quickly on the uphills. We’re not sure if tomorrow’s ride will be an epic through the mountains, or a fast-paced lap at our local cross-country loops.
Built for speed, fun, and just general horsing around the 5010 gets dialed geometry to meet the demands of modern trail and enduro riding. A 65.4° headtube angle combined with the 27.5in wheels gives us a platform that’s playful all while allowing us to roll over any kind of obstacle. Even in the slack flip-chip setting, we’re still getting a 77°(size M) seat-tube angle that supports us up big fire road climbs or on local XC loops. Helping tone down the noise is a pre-installed chainstay protector, so we’re not needing to recycle old tubes to stop the kitchen sink from falling out on the way down the mountain.
A full SRAM Eagle drivetrain helps us pedal through tight switchbacks and stays intact during big crashes. The X01 drivetrain is engineered for enduro abuse, all while keeping the weight low enough for XC use. This drivetrain is perfectly specced for how we ride the 5010, and the huge range offered on the 10-52t cassette has us pedaling up and down the steepest gradients imaginable. New to Santa Cruz is the proportional chainstay lengths, this means that every size frame gets a different read triangle for even better ride characteristics. RockShox suspension supports us through any riding condition all while eating through whatever chunder and gnar we can find.
This 5010 is built differently to ride better and faster through whatever kind of terrain we encounter. The bike offers seemingly endless fun, helping us keep up with our buddies on the local cross-country loops as well as it does on shuttle days. The 5010 maximizes fun with a high-quality spec via super strong SRAM 4-piston brakes and durable fast-rolling Maxxis rubber to keep us glued to the trail. VPP is turning into a proven suspension platform and it keeps us extra comfortable on hairy descents. We can’t wait to get this bike dirty and it’s quickly turning into the do-it-all fun bike we always wish we had.
*Due to unprecedented demand in the global supply chain and the bike industry over the last 18 months, material weight and exact components are subject to change.
