Why We Like The 5010 Carbon R Mountain Bike
There’s no other bike that brings as much fun and peppiness to the mountain bike scene as the Santa Cruz 5010 Carbon R Mountain Bike. The 27.5in trail bike reminds us of some of our first and fondest rides aboard mountain bikes, without the fuss of breaking something halfway down the run. This version of the 5010 uses SRAM shifting, RockShox and Fox Suspension, and the Santa Cruz virtual pivot point suspension system to create a unique and supportive ride. We’re taking this bike on lift-assist days and big pedals days, not in a rush to get anywhere too quickly, but always looking to have a good time.
Geometry on the Santa Cruz 5010 does us extra favors in the fun department while we’re cruising down trail and finding the coolest cuts and features to get lost on. The bike utilizes a slacked-out 65.4-degree head-tube angle in the slackest setting, great for getting the 27.5in front-wheel over obstacles without getting stuck. In a size medium, we get to enjoy a 77-degree seat-tube angle as the bike proves that its not all about just going downhill. The long-wheelbase specced on the 5010, considering it’s 27.5in recommended wheels, is a welcome addition to keep us comfortable at high speeds.
Santa Cruz tailors the geometry to the rider by engineering growing chainstays, meaning that the bike is built not just on a slider but for specific ride characteristics depending on rider size. SRAM is in charge of shifting duties on the 5010 and offers an impressive 12 speeds of range including a huge 50t cassette out back for big ol’ walls we encounter on trail. RockShox and Fox take care of suspension duties, with a plush Fox DPS shock in the reak mixed with a ready-for-anything RockShox Pike fork up front.
*Due to unprecedented demand in the global supply chain and the bike industry over the last 18 months, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be minor. If you have any questions, reach out to a Gearhead by chatting online or calling 1-888-276-7130.
