Why We Like The Bronson Carbon CC X01 Eagle Mountain Bike
Throwing a leg over the Santa Cruz Bronson Carbon CC X01 Eagle Mountain Bike starts to redefine what our limits truly are. This bike flies through the descents and keeps us on our toes through the rough and chunder. We’ll keep the stock setup on our Bronson, as Santa Cruz has specced this build to the nines in an effort to give us the best possible riding platform and race times. Built with aggressive enduro racing in mind the Bronson is specced with a mixed wheel platform, 150mm of rear travel with a 160mm fork, and utilizes Santa Cruz’s esteemed VPP suspension platform.
The aggressive and enduro-focused Bronson doesn’t skimp out on geometry. This big-hitter bike is dialed for rolling through aggressive trails and hitting harsh huck-to-flats while out on the dirt. The integrated flip-chip can drop the bike between high and low settings, but in the low setting, we’re running the bike with an ultra-slack 64.5° head-tube angle. This gives the bike a stable feel in the rough but keeps it nimble enough to get us safely through the chunder. The 76.6° seat-tube angle keeps us planted while going up and over-aggressive climbs, while the nice and long 472mm reach on a size large is great for when the speeds get high.
Suspenson performance is handled with a mix of Fox and RockShox performance parts, specifically chosen by the Santa Cruz team to give their VPP linkage the best possible riding quality. A Fox 36 fork takes care of the front end, while a RockShox Super Deluxe calms down all the trail chunder thrown its way. Tried and tested drivetrain duties are taken care of with the SRAM Eagle X01 group, this lightweight and durable drivetrain has been tailor-made to handle the abuse that enduro riding throws its way. RaceFace hoops have been outfitted to this Bronson, offering a strong 30mm internal width so we can confidently run wider tires to gain an impressive amount of ground contact.
We’re riding into new terrain with the Bronson under our legs and supporting us through our sketchiest moments. This new bike delivers on all fronts, as a trail bike it’s highly capable and still fun to pedal, but it really shines on lift assist and huge downhills seen in enduro racing. A wide and supportive tire offers plenty of grip in loose and fast terrain, while the mixed suspension compliments the equally supportive VPP linkage. Running the Santa Cruz at the local enduro scene is bound to bring us plenty of podiums and even more smiles along the way.
