Why We Like The Hightower Carbon CC X01 Eagle Mountain Bike
When trail days quickly turn into party laps we ride with confidence on the Santa Cruz Hightower Carbon CC X01 Eagle Mountain Bike all day long. The Hightower is equipped with robust components and a stable geometry to get us down the hill fast, ride after ride. Whether we’re hitting the bike park or all-day epics the 145mm of rearward travel gets us up and over big obstacles while soaking in rocky terrain found on the descents. 29in wheels roll over the harshest of terrain while VPP travel prioritizes predictable smooth riding and rear wheel ground contact. The Hightower enjoys Santa Cruz’s best design, best carbon frame, and some of the best components on offer to make for some of our best rides.
Santa Cruz combines the new lower-link suspension with flip-chip technology for adaptable geometry, allowing us to slacken things out for park laps with the crew, or steepen things up for taking on epic backcountry missions with thousands of feet of vertical gain. The switch is easy to make with the turn of a hex key and changes the geometry quite significantly. The bike arrives out of the box in low mode, with a head tube angle that sits low and long at 65.2-degrees, perking up to 65.5 in High mode, while the seat tube angle shifts from 76.7 in Low, up to 77.1-degrees in High for a pedal-friendly position that’s ready to attack the climbs.
Kit with the Santa Cruz Hightower leaves little to be desired with enduro-rated parts at cross-country weights. The SRAM X01 Drivetrain offers 12 speeds of range on a single ring, with the 50t propelling us up the steepest of grades and the 10t there for when the going gets fast. SRAM also takes care of braking duties with the 4-piston hydraulic brakes putting a stop to sketchy situations. RaceFace hoops are laced to quality Industry Nine hubs and provide a large 30mm internal width to support the aggressive downhill-ready Maxxis rubber. Finishing off the enduro-ready kit is a dropper and Santa Cruz’s house-made carbon handlebars. Santa Cruz has a reputation of building some of the strongest carbon components on the market and this gives us confidence while slaying park laps or putting in all-day efforts.
The Santa Cruz Hightower is as sure to get us up the mountain as it is down. The progressive and predictable VPP suspension has us happily slaying trail laps while the Fox and Rockshox suspension supports us through the hardest trail hits. Aggressive Maxxis rubber sees us down the hill with confidence, no matter how hard-charging we’re sending it down this time. Santa Cruz designs the Carbon CC frame with ultimate stiffness, reliability, and low weight in mind. The CC frame gets dedicated man-hours to build up a robust frame with a master designer’s touch, all while enjoying a full lifetime warranty. The Santa Cruz Hightower is made to be the goldilocks of trail and enduro bikes, lining up for a park day as easily as it lines up for a full day of enduro racing on the weekends.
