Why We Like The Megatower Carbon CC Fox Coil Mountain Bike Frame
Big wheels big travel—that’s what the Megatower’s all about. We’d position this Carbon CC Fox Coil Frame as a top-tier platform for building a race-worthy steed, or an impressively pedal-friendly descending specialist. 160mm of VPP suspension provides levels of traction and confidence that are hard to match in the long-travel enduro category.
We slot the Megatower in right between the DH World Cup-winning V10 and its venerable Nomad as far as its capability on demanding trails, however, that’s only part of the story. It’s pretty damn versatile too. Sure, it likes to go fast and provides the security of a safety net at high speeds on technical trails, however, unlike the V10, and to a lesser extent, the Nomad, we would whole-heartily throw a leg over the Megatower at almost any trailhead we’ve visited as it can simply devour almost any terrain without hardly a weight or, thanks to its steep seat tube angle (76-76.8 degrees depending on size), pedaling penalty.
This specific frame utilizes Santa Cruz’s CC carbon construction, which is both the lightest and stiffest layup available. Frame integrated cable housing, integrated downtube and shuttle protectors, and frame adjustability are all stock features. The Megatower is actually one of few Santa Cruz bikes to feature both adjustable frame geometry for head tube angle and bottom bracket height, as well as adjustable chainstays. Use the shorter chainstay setting for a playful and flickable rear end, or stretch it out for ultimate race-ready traction and stability. The Fox DH X2 Factory Coil is so supple off the top of the stroke that small bumps simply disappear, and the adjustable rebound and spring tension ensure you can fine-tune your ramp-up to your desired feel.
