Why We Like The SB165 C1 SLX Mountain Bike
Where we’re going next we don’t need any lycra on the Yeti SB165 C1 SLX Mountain Bike. This big hitter of a bike is pure-bred to focus on the fun things in life like descending, big gaps, park laps, and getting loose on the steeps. The SB165 is made to work with a coil and dual crown fork, ensuring the fun doesn’t stop regardless of the reckless features we’re on. The SB165 is equipped with Yeti’s Switch Infinity linkage, which gives the bike an aggressive curve ratio meant for going deep on steep terrain. We find the SB165 equipped with downhill rated parts meant to take on a season of chunky park and lift-assisted riding.
Swinging a leg over the SB165 we’re not kidding ourselves about trying to pedal up a hill. Though it’s entirely possible, a quick ride up the shuttle sounds a lot more intriguing. This bike is equipped with an ultra-slacked out 63.5-degree head angle paired with nimble 27.5in wheels. The slack head-tube angle helps with rollover capability while the smaller-sized wheels get us out of trouble quickly. The bike also enjoys a 1255mm wheelbase in a size large, giving it a playful riding style that shows its love on big gaps and technical terrains. Yeti smartly specs the bike with a 37mm offset fork, this gives the front end better handling characteristics even with a shorter wheelbase and smaller wheels.
We can’t go this far without mentioning Yeti’s new-school and ultra-modern Switch Infinity linkage system. This system is purpose-built by Yeti to soak up pedal bob and allow for near bottomless suspension when the going gets rough. Kit on the C1 starts with the frame, and Yeti’s C1 offers a dependable carbon frameset for a lifetime of riding. Rear suspension sees a change of pace as the SB130 is supported by the Fox Float DHX2, a downhill-sized shock that delivers downhill capability. The front end of the bike is equipped with a single-crown Fox Performance 38 that delivers when it comes to aggressive riding and all-out descents. Drivetrain duties are taken care of by a full Shimano SLX lineup that features 12-speeds of range with hyperglide II technology to seamlessly take care of shifting under duress.
While riding uphill may not be for everyone, riding downhill surely is and with the Yeti SB165 we take every lap in stride. This aggressive and performance-focused bike uses DT Swiss hoops and hubs outfitted with hyper-aggressive Maxxis rubber for a safe ride down the mountain. The rear end of the bike is also compatible with up to a 2.6in tire, meaning we can get away with a bit more cush if the trails justify it. The Yeti SB165 is there for all our downhill needs, and fitting a dual-crown fork on it opens up a world of big mountains and fast race paced opportunities.
